The bad news and the good news

During the spring, we had been following the progress of two swans that had returned from last year. They had made a nest by the 6th hole and dutifully sat on the eggs. Then we had the delight of seeing them proudly showing off their six little cygnets.
Then disaster, as the picture shows, after a couple of weeks the six were down to two.

The game stopped as we all counted the cygnets and then recounted hoping there would be six, but no, definitely only two remain.

However the good news is that the remaining two cygnets have survived and as you can see are now fully grown and just need to get their nice white feathers, and Mum And Dad are still together looking after them. Let's hope they all live happily ever after and we see them again next year.
Apologies if the pictures are not very clear but getting too close to a female swan protecting its young is not a wise move.
